We’re here to bring you the latest information that will allow you to “get off the grid.” We are hoping you will become independent of the electric companies or — at least not fully dependent. Can you imagine the thrill of a 0 balance due the electric company or the bill cut in half?
We will be bringing you articles on becoming as totally self reliant as you want to be, or can be at this time, from solar electric power and solar water heaters to greenhouses and growing your own food – with everything in between.
We realize it takes a lot of self education, planning and then implementing some (or all) of these ideas in order to be where you want to be. And it’s not cheap. If you can do some, or all of it yourself that can save a lot of money.
Here’s where we come in. We will try to find as much information that will help you at least get started — or that can add to the knowledge you have already.
One of the easiest things to start with is growing your own food.
Almost everyone can do it. If you live in the suburbs you can have a small plot of land (or your yard) devoted to vegetables and herbs. If you are in the city and have the benefit of a terrace you can do container gardening. If you do not have a terrace you can (if you have a sunny window in your apartment) also container garden. I’ve knew someone who grew an orange tree in a pot in their living room. And, yes, it did have fruit.
If none of the above pertains to you, please cultivate friends in the suburbs. They might be willing to loan you a piece of land in exchange for some of the crops. You will have to maintain the area a couple times a week so pick someone close by.
However you do it you will greatly benefit from the joys of harvesting your own food. The quality of food is so much better and the difference in taste is unbelievable!
It just takes a desire to become extremely independent of “the system” to be able to do it.
